Matt Sporleder Announces Re-Election Campaign as Jennings County Commissioner
“Proven Leadership. Real Results. A Stronger Jennings County.”
Jennings County – Today, long-time public servant Matt Sporleder officially announced his bid for re-election as Jennings County Commissioner, continuing a legacy of results-driven leadership.
Since first elected, Matt has led efforts to modernize county infrastructure, realize significant cost savings & prioritize responsive service to citizens and first responders. He has built a record defined by fiscal responsibility, infrastructure improvement and practical leadership focused on saving taxpayer dollars while improving county services.
“Jennings County is home. It’s where Pam and I raised our family, where I farm, where I’ve driven a school bus for over 25 years, and where I’ve dedicated my life to serving,” said Sporleder. “I’m running again because we have built momentum and I want to continue delivering results that benefit every family in our county.”
Proven Results Under Matt’s Leadership:
✔ Unified the county highway departments to share equipment, eliminating the need to purchase duplicate machinery and saving taxpayers significant funds.
✔ Invested in higher-capacity tri and quad axle dump trucks to transport materials more efficiently and economically.
✔ Purchased equipment to produce county blacktop in-house at approximately $60 per ton versus $100 per ton market rate.
✔ Organized county crews to build bridges internally, saving enough in labor to construct an additional bridge for every three built.
✔ Repaired and upgraded 12 bridges previously on the “needs repair” list.
✔ Secured just over $2 million in Community Crossings grants in partnership with a State Representative.
✔ Created a county Human Resources department to ensure compliance and employee support.
✔ Partnered with the City of North Vernon to reduce energy costs through a solar initiative.
✔ Bundled insurance coverage for volunteer fire departments to reduce financial strain on first responders.
✔ Vastly reduced gravel roads by upgrading to chip-and-seal and cold mix asphalt.
✔ Helped establish the Jackson/Jennings Community Corrections partnership with Jackson County, keeping non-violent offenders working & contributing.
✔ Created receivership improvements that returned over 1,000 properties to the tax rolls and transformed distressed areas.
“These are not promises; they are measurable results,” Sporleder added. “I believe in careful stewardship of taxpayer money and making decisions that strengthen Jennings County for the long term.”
Sporleder and his wife Pamela have been married 31 years. They raised three children who graduated with honors from Jennings County High School. Matt also owns and operates a small grain and livestock farm in Columbia Township.
The campaign will focus on continued infrastructure upgrades, public safety support, fiscal discipline and strategic development to keep Jennings County competitive with surrounding communities.
“Experience matters. Stability matters. And Jennings County deserves leadership that has already proven it can deliver.”
